VANCOUVER, British Columbia — The Pittsburgh Penguins can breath easier.

Following their heart-pounding 3-2 win over the Vancouver Canucks Sunday at Rogers Arena, the Penguins bench celebrated, but as everyone raised their arms, Evgeni Malkin dropped to the bench, doubled over.

Penguins coach Dan Muse seemed a little bit surprised by the initial question from Pittsburgh Hockey Now following the game, but later sought out a couple of media outlets, including PHN, to clarify that he believed Malkin was fine.

There is nothing to it.

Something to watch – Geno Malkin got his shoulder bumped on the bench and collapsed in pain. A shoulder injury kept 71 out 15 games earlier this season pic.twitter.com/4SfNHagzVy

The video does look quite scary, and there were a couple of injury alerts sent out. However, the Penguins have not said anything beyond Muse seeking out the media to clarify the situation after he learned of the sweeping internet video.

Malkin was one of the Penguins’ best players Sunday, scoring his 13th goal of the season, continuing a torrid pace in which he has goals in three straight games and points in six of his last seven games (4-5-9).

The Penguins center confirmed Thursday in Edmonton that he wants to play one more year, and sources told Pittsburgh Hockey Now on Friday that the Malkin camp was ready to discuss a new contract, but were awaiting a decision from Penguins general manager Kyle Dubas.
