Health officials are urging people to donate blood in the wake of the recent winter weather.

Miller-Keystone Blood Center says snow the past two weekends forced its locations to cancel several community blood drives. That dramatically reduced blood donations, leaving them with a critical shortage, the center said.

Winter is already a tough time for blood collections, with holiday activities, increased travel and seasonal illnesses.

The center says it needs about 350 blood donations every day to keep up with local demand.
