The Philadelphia Eagles have hired a replacement for the star coach they lost to an NFC East rival.

The Eagles are promoting Joe Kasper to become the team’s defensive backs coach and defensive passing game coordinator, according to NFL Network’s Cameron Wolfe.

Kasper is taking over the role vacated by Christian Parker, who was hired as the Dallas Cowboys’ defensive coordinator last week.

Parker was deemed a big but expected loss after the 34-year-old spent the last two seasons with the Eagles.

Parker is credited for helping turn Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean into All-Pro players. Mitchell and DeJean were first and second-round picks in the 2024 NFL draft, arriving in Philadelphia around the same time Parker did.

“I don’t think I’d be the player I am or I’d have the success that I’ve had without (Parker),” DeJean said earlier this month.

Many figured it was only a matter of time until Parker landed a defensive coordinator role elsewhere.

But when Parker left, the Eagles had Kasper, another promising coach, as a logical replacement.

Kasper joined the Eagles as a quality control coach for the 2021 and 2022 seasons. He joined Vic Fangio’s defensive staff with the Miami Dolphins as a safeties coach in 2023 before following Fangio to Philadelphia in 2024.

Kasper served as the team’s safeties coach in 2024 and 2025 and made his presence felt with all the defensive backs.

“(Parker) and coach Kasper, what those guys mean to us in the DB room, how they coach, the intensity they bring, the passion they have for the game, means a lot to us,” DeJean said. “Doesn’t go unnoticed.”

And Kasper’s work didn’t go unnoticed by Fangio, Nick Sirianni and the Eagles’ decision-makers, either.
