Fire crews worked overnight after a heater in a classroom at a Galloway, New Jersey elementary school was involved in a fire, officials said.

According to Louis Miranda, assistant chief of Bayview Volunteer Fire Company, crews responded at about midnight to a fire at a heater in one of the classrooms at Arthur Rann Elementary School, located along the 500 block of South 8th Avenue.

However, he said, the flames were contained to one room and the fire had “settled itself down” by the time firefighters arrived.

“We had it knocked down within minutes of being here,” he said.

Miranda believed little damage was done to the overall school saying he believed the damage was contained to one classroom, but investigators and the school board would still need to review the situation.

No one was hurt during this incident and officials said an investigation is ongoing into the cause of the flames.

The school district will still need to determine if and when the school could reopen following the incident, Miranda noted.
