Mike McCarthy, a Greenfield native known for his leadership and dedication, has returned to Pittsburgh as the new head coach of the Steelers, sparking excitement and pride in his hometown community.Jimmy Gregg, who has known McCarthy for over 50 years, described him as “generous, down to earth, truthful, dedicated.”Reflecting on their shared history, Gregg recalled, “In 1975, we won the diocesan championship, and he was one of the key players on that day.”McCarthy was just 12 years old at the time.”Even at that time, you could see he had a lot of leadership skills.
