(WHTM) — President Donald Trump endorsed Pennsylvania Treasurer Stacy Garrity in her bid for governor.
Trump made the endorsement in a social media post on Tuesday, in which he praised Garrity’s business experience and military service, calling her a “true America First Patriot.”

He added, “Stacy Garrity has my Complete and Total Endorsement to be the next Governor of Pennsylvania – SHE WILL NOT LET YOU DOWN!”
Garrity, who the Republican Party of Pennsylvania already endorsed, pledged to work with the Trump administration if elected. She currently faces no opposition in the party’s May primary election and is likely to face incumbent Gov. Josh Shapiro (D) in the November general election.
Who is running for Governor of Pennsylvania?
In a statement, Garrity said she was honored to receive Trump’s endorsement and praised him for being the first Republican candidate for president in 28 years to win the state, crediting his message for working Americans and economic policies. She also focused on Shapiro.
“Josh Shapiro is President Trump’s number one adversary, and I am looking forward to working with President Trump and his team to defeat Josh Shapiro this November,” Garrity said.
A native of Athens, Bradford County, Garrity served in the U.S. Army Reserves as a colonel and is the former vice president of Global Tungsten and Powders Corp.
She was elected twice as treasurer, receiving more than 3.5 million votes in 2024, the most ever in a statewide election in Pennsylvania. Trump endorsed her then, too.
The president’s previous endorsements in the state, which he won in 2016 and 2024, have not been as successful. He endorsed former State Sen. Scott Wagner (R-York) for governor in the 2018 election, which Wagner lost by more than 800,000 votes. He also endorsed State Sen. Doug Mastriano (R-Adams/Franklin) in his unsuccessful 2022 bid for governor, as well as Mehmet Oz in his failed U.S. Senate bid the same year.
Trump did endorse Dave McCormick for Senate in an uncontested 2024 Republican primary.
Garrity has long been a supporter of the president. She’s faced criticism from Democrats for not acknowledging Trump did not win Pennsylvania in the 2020 election.
Garrity campaign turns to streaming in race against Shapiro
Earlier this month, she suggested that previous election denial statements were whimsical comments to the president.
“That was at a Trump rally, and it’s, you know, those are kind of fun things,” Garrity said. “So, it’s easy to get caught up in a Trump rally.”
The Democratic Governors Association focused on her closeness with Trump. In a statement shortly after the president made the endorsement, the organization described Garrity as “going full MAGA and bear-hugging the accomplishments that have cost Pennsylvanians the most.”
Eugene DePasquale, chair of the Pennsylvania Democratic Party, similarly characterized the endorsement, calling Garrity “nothing more than a rubber stamp for Trump’s chaos and higher costs.”
