CUMBERLAND COUNTY, Pa. (WHTM) — A survivor of human trafficking who was reported missing in Pennsylvania nearly two years ago has been found safe.

Pennsylvania State Police said Wednesday that the search for Lauren Steele was over, as she had been found and is safe. Additional details about where she was found were not released.

Steele, who was 36 years old at the time she was reported missing, is a human trafficking survivor, according to a June 2025 report from NewsNation, and she was headed to Las Vegas from Carlisle to attend a program for human trafficking survivors.

Steele was going to fly to Las Vegas from Pennsylvania, but her flight was delayed, so she was put in a Carlisle hotel. She contacted her family after getting to the hotel, telling them there was a man waiting outside for her who was supposed to help her get on the plane, according to the report.

At the time, that was the last her parents had ever heard from her, NewsNation reported.

According to investigators, Steele was originally from New York but had also lived in Virginia and was moving to Pennsylvania.
