(WHTM) — It’s identity theft awareness week and Attorney General Dave Sunday met with older Pennsylvanians to talk about ways to protect themselves from scams.
Last year, the Bureau of Consumer Protection fielded more than 4,000 complaints from Pennsylvanians, with a total of $76 million in those scams.
The most common scams are phishing, government imposters, and loan modification.

“If you’re contacted unexpectedly, be extremely cautious, so via email, phone call, in person, if someone is just aggressive and you have to do it now, don’t do it now,” Sunday said. “Hang up, shut the door.”

Sunday reminded Pennsylvanians that scams happen everyday and to let someone know if you’ve been scammed.
