SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA CO. (WOLF) \u2014 Officials in Lackawanna County have extended Code Blue frigid weather alerts through early next week as dangerously cold conditions continue across the region.<\/p>\n
The Lackawanna County Emergency Management Agency, in coordination with the City of Scranton, announced that the overnight cold-weather alerts will remain in effect through Tuesday night due to persistent low temperatures and harsh wind chills.<\/p>\n
The alerts, which activate when temperatures are expected to fall below 20 degrees, are intended to protect vulnerable residents, particularly those without stable housing. Several Code Blue periods were previously issued for overnight hours beginning Thursday and continuing through the weekend, with wind chills dropping well below zero at times.<\/p>\n
Additional alerts have now been declared for Monday night into Tuesday morning and Tuesday night into Wednesday morning as wind chills are expected to remain in the single digits.<\/p>\n
During Code Blue conditions, emergency shelter options are available throughout Scranton. St. Anthony\u2019s Haven on Olive Street will operate overnight from 7 p.m. until 8 a.m. Weston Field House on Providence Road will open its doors beginning at 7:30 p.m. The Community Intervention Center on North Sixth Avenue will remain open daily, with extended hours available if conditions require.<\/p>\n
