Opportunity House will host the\u00a024th annual Souper Bowl\u00a0on\u00a0Monday, Feb. 2, at 5:30 p.m., at the\u00a0DoubleTree by Hilton in Reading.<\/p>\n
Stacy Perlaki, Director of Development at Opportunity House, said, \u201cSouper Bowl continues to be one of the most anticipated events of the year. It\u2019s been a cherished tradition for 24 years.\u00a0Our sold-out status is a testament to how our community supports our mission.\u201d All proceeds from the event benefit the programs and services at Opportunity House.<\/p>\n
\u201cDuring the winter months, the need for emergency shelter increases, along with demand for our transitional housing and Code Blue housing programs,\u201d said Alyssa Bushkie, CEO of Opportunity House.\u00a0\u201cEvents like Souper Bowl provide the critical funding needed to ensure individuals and families experiencing homelessness have access to safe shelter, support services, and pathways to stable housing.\u201d<\/p>\n
Guests will sample a diverse array of soups from26 restaurants throughout Berks County.\u00a0 Attendees will\u00a0select a one-of-a-kind pottery bowl created by students from local school districts, including Allegheny Evangelical Lutheran Church, Boyertown Middle School, Exeter High School, Friedens Lutheran Church, Googleworks, Hamburg Area High School, Kutztown High School, Kutztown University, Muhlenberg High School, Oley Valley High School, Schuylkill Valley Middle School, Twin Valley Middle School, and Wilson High School\u00a0donated bowls.<\/p>\n
The Silent Auction features handcrafted bowls by local artists, allowing attendees to take home a unique piece of Berks County artistry. The evening concludes with the announcement of the People\u2019s Choice Award and the Chef\u2019s Choice Award Winners.\u00a0 The People\u2019s Choice is voted on by guests attending the event,\u00a0and the Chef\u2019s Choice Award is voted on by all the chefs from participating restaurants.<\/p>\n
Opportunity House provides emergency shelter for more than 700 men, women, families, and Veterans\u00a0each year in their two locations: Reading, PA, and Pottstown, PA.\u00a0The organization offers support services to help individuals experiencing homelessness achieve stable housing. Opportunity House provides both transitional and supportive housing to over 100 individuals.\u00a0The Second Street Learning Center and Patton Avenue Learning Centers offer\u00a0Keystone Star\u00a0quality childcare to more than 200 children annually.<\/p>\n
