PITTSBURGH \u2014 The PNC Foundation has contributed a $2 million grant to the City of Pittsburgh to fund the purchase of new snow removal equipment. <\/p>\n
The investment is intended to bolster the city\u2019s ability to respond to severe winter weather following a record-setting storm.<\/p>\n
The grant comes after Sunday\u2019s major snowstorm triggered a state of emergency in the city. The funding supports Mayor Corey O\u2019Connor\u2019s ongoing commitment to upgrading the city\u2019s aging fleet used by the Department of Public Works.<\/p>\n
The $2 million investment will allow the city to purchase 15 new vehicles for the Department of Public Works this year. These additions will bring the city\u2019s total of new, reliable equipment to more than 50.<\/p>\n
William S. Demchak serves as the chairman and chief executive officer of PNC. He emphasized that reliable snow removal is necessary for both neighborhood safety and the local economy.<\/p>\n
\u201cLast weekend\u2019s storm was a powerful reminder of how essential it is for our city to be prepared for severe winter weather,\u201d Demchak said. \u201cPittsburgh deserves strong, reliable snow removal capabilities that keep our neighborhoods safe and our economy moving. PNC is proud to support the city with this investment in equipment that will help keep Pittsburgh and its residents resilient and ready for future storms.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mayor O\u2019Connor noted that Department of Public Works crews often work around the clock following significant snowfalls. He credited the partnership with the PNC Foundation for the rapid expansion of city resources.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019d like to thank the PNC Foundation for this generous donation that will help us purchase 15 vehicles this year for the Department of Public Works,\u201d O\u2019Connor said. \u201cOur DPW crews work hard and around the clock after snow events and, thanks to our local partnerships like this, will now have more than 50 new pieces of reliable equipment. This kind of investment from PNC shows that we\u2019re all in this together and invested in the safety of our crews and our communities.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cPNC\u2019s investment in the City\u2019s fleet reflects their commitment to the Pittsburgh community. As the largest property taxpayer in the City, PNC has gone above and beyond their responsibility to help ensure that we can clear the streets, respond to emergencies, keep businesses open, and keep people safe. Their direct support of our snow removal operations also frees up critical funding for other public safety priorities, like fire apparatus, which are still desperately needed.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m grateful for PNC\u2019s loyalty to Pittsburgh, and I hope other private companies and non-profit organizations will follow their lead and find ways to help support essential operations where they do business. As City Controller, I will make sure that these partnerships are accountable to the public and that every contribution benefits the entire community.\u201d<\/p>\n
