PENNSYLVANIA (WTAJ) \u2014 One State Representative is looking to bring a Child Abuse Prevention Month to the commonwealth.<\/p>\n
Rep. Brenda Pugh (R-120) will soon introduce legislation that would designate April 2026 as \u201cChild Abuse Prevention Month\u201d, bringing attention to the prevalence of the act as well as highlighting the importance of working together to protect children.<\/p>\n
According to Pugh, in a written memo to fellow PA House members, over 41,000 reports of suspected child abuse were received in 2024, with 60 substantiated fatalities in Pennsylvania. Across the United States, an estimated 546,159 children were victims of child abuse and neglect in 2023. She notes that this makes a national rate of 7.4 victims per 1,000 children in the population.<\/p>\n
