SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA CO. (WOLF) \u2014 After eight months of chaos, court cases, appeals, and allegations of back-room deals and insider politics, Lackawanna County will have three commissioners seated before a November 4 special election.<\/p>\n
Brenda Sacco is set to be sworn in Wednesday as a Lackawanna County commissioner, following a Pennsylvania Supreme Court decision that upheld the county\u2019s Home Rule Charter process for filling vacancies.<\/p>\n
The state\u2019s highest court ruled Monday that the Lackawanna County Democratic Committee acted within its authority when it selected Sacco to serve until the results of the Nov. 4 special election are certified later this fall.<\/p>\n
Sacco, a Democrat and former county economic development director, was appointed to temporarily replace former Commissioner Matt McGloin, who resigned in February. Her swearing-in had been delayed for weeks due to a legal dispute over how the vacant seat should be filled.<\/p>\n
Sacco\u2019s public swearing-in ceremony is scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Lackawanna County Courthouse, according to Court Administrator Frank Castellano. It will take place in courtroom 4 at the Lackawanna County Courthouse. <\/p>\n
President Judge James A. Gibbons will swear Sacco in.<\/p>\n
Sacco will hold the position until the special election winner officially takes office to complete McGloin\u2019s unexpired term, ending a months-long impasse that began in March when Commissioner Bill Gaughan and the county filed a legal challenge to the appointment process.<\/p>\n
