Now in its fourth year, the Stargazing in the Parklands series continues to bring residents together for engaging evenings under the stars, welcoming both first-time stargazers and those with a strong background in astronomy.

Presented by the Borough of Wyomissing Department of Recreation, the series offers participants the opportunity to slow down, step outside, and explore the night sky from the scenic West Slope of the Parklands. With minimal light pollution and expansive views, the location serves as an ideal setting to observe constellations, planets, and other celestial features as they shift with the seasons.

Interest in the program has grown steadily each year. Last year’s final event attracted over 100 attendees, highlighting the community’s enthusiasm for outdoor educational programming that appeals to all ages.

A key element of the series’ success is the Borough’s ongoing partnership with the Berks County Amateur Astronomical Society. Their members provide telescopes, expert insight, and an approachable, hands-on experience that resonates with attendees. Known for their dedication, Berks Astronomy volunteers make it a point to speak with every person in attendance, answering questions and helping guests better understand what they’re observing in the night sky.

“The people at Berks Astronomy are unbelievable partners,” noted Randy McKinley, Director of Recreation & Communications. “Their expertise is remarkable, and their willingness to engage one-on-one with attendees is what truly elevates the experience.”

Borough Council Member Rick Weinhoffer, who has attended every Stargazing in the Parklands event with his family, shared his perspective on the series’ impact.

“Every event offers something new,” said Weinhoffer. “Watching families, kids, and adults all learning together—and seeing how excited people get when they look through a telescope for the first time—is incredibly rewarding. The Berks Astronomy team does an outstanding job of making the night sky accessible and exciting for everyone.”

The Stargazing in the Parklands series takes place across multiple seasons, allowing participants to experience the changing night sky throughout the year. An upcoming February event is part of the broader series and will showcase the clarity and brilliance unique to winter stargazing.

The 2026 Stargazing in the Parklands series launches this year on Friday, February 27, inviting residents to bundle up and experience the beauty of the winter night sky. While temperatures may be cold, cooler evenings often bring crisp, clear conditions that are ideal for stargazing, allowing stars, planets, and constellations to shine with exceptional clarity. Attendees are encouraged to dress warmly and come prepared for an outdoor winter experience.

Additional Stargazing in the Parklands dates for the year include (all Friday’s): May 22nd 6:00 PM, August 14th 8:30 PM, November 13th 6:00 PM.

Whether attending with a deep interest in astronomy or simply a sense of curiosity, Stargazing in the Parklands continues to offer a meaningful way to connect with nature, neighbors, and the universe above.

For more information and event updates, residents are encouraged to follow the Borough of Wyomissing on social media or visit the Borough’s website.

Looking up has become a favorite community experience in Wyomissing.
