EXETER TWP., Pa. – Just before midnight on Saturday, Exeter Township Police responded to the area of the 1300 block of Claire Drive for a report of a possible gas leak, authorities say.<\/p>\n
Upon arrival, officers coordinated with UGI Utilities, who confirmed an active gas leak in the area, according to a press release from the police department.<\/p>\n
Police say as a precaution, Exeter Township Police, along with members of the Exeter Township Volunteer Fire Department, conducted door-to-door notifications and evacuated residents from homes along Claire Drive and Budd Street.<\/p>\n
Township Emergency Management Coordinators established a temporary shelter for displaced residents at the Dunn Center in Exeter Township while UGI worked to address the leak and secure the area, according to officials.<\/p>\n
The release says shortly after 3 a.m., UGI determined the area was safe. Power was restored to the affected area, and residents were able to return to their homes.<\/p>\n
Authorities say UGI will be providing space heaters to residents who remain without gas service as repairs continue.<\/p>\n
