Pennsylvania American Water has completed replacing of eight sections of sanitary sewer main in Exeter Township.<\/p>\n
The mains are among 10 sections to be replaced as part of a $2.1 million project made possible via low-interest financing from the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority, officials said in a release.<\/p>\n
\u201cAging wastewater infrastructure significantly increases maintenance and operational costs,\u201d said Gerald DeBalko, engineering manager at Pennsylvania American Water. \u201cWith the low-interest financing from PENNVEST, we were able to perform this much needed work for the long-term benefit of the Exeter system and its customers.\u201d<\/p>\n
The loan, at 1% interest for the first five years and 1.743% interest for the remainder of the 20-year loan period, was announced in October 2024.<\/p>\n
The work was performed this summer and about 1,815 feet of main and 18 manholes were replaced, officials said.<\/p>\n
PENNVEST provides low-interest loans and grants for new construction or for improvements to publicly or privately-owned drinking water, storm water or sewage treatment facilities, as well as nonpoint source pollution prevention best management practices.<\/p>\n
