PITTSBURGH \u2014 A woman was hit by a Pittsburgh Regional Transit bus in Oakland on Monday.<\/p>\n
Click here for photos from the scene.<\/a><\/p>\n Allegheny County dispatchers said police officers, firefighters and medics were called to the intersection of Fifth Avenue and South Neville Street at 6:56 p.m.<\/p>\n A spokesperson from PRT said the person was hit while the 58-Greenfield bus was turning left from Neville Street and onto Fifth Avenue.<\/p>\n PRT said the victim, a woman in her late 20s, was taken to a UPMC Presbyterian Hospital. She is in critical but stable condition. <\/p>\n Witnesses told Channel 11 they stepped outside their Carnegie Mellon University dorm and were met with chaos.<\/p>\n \u201cWe saw a bunch of cops come and fire trucks and everything and we just ran out,\u201d said Abdul Brooks, a CMU freshman.<\/p>\n He described seeing the woman trapped beneath the bus.<\/p>\n \u201cWe saw the bus and we saw someone under the bus and their hands were moving all around,\u201d the student said.<\/p>\n Witnesses say the driver appeared distraught after the crash.<\/p>\n \u201cWe saw the bus driver actually come out of the bus and she was crying,\u201d one student said.<\/p>\n When Channel 11 arrived on scene, several personal belongings could be seen under the bus. <\/p>\n Students said first responders used wooden planks to lift the bus and free the victim before placing her on a stretcher.<\/p>\n Police shut down the intersection for nearly two hours while investigators worked the scene.<\/p>\n Nearby students say they are still shaken.<\/p>\n \u201cPretty tragic situation.
