COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) – Valentine\u2019s Day is around the corner, but there\u2019s a love story that involves a different holiday. <\/p>\n
A Colorado Springs couple is now engaged following a proposal under Punxsutawney Phil\u2019s shadow that ended up happening live on the news in Pennsylvania. <\/p>\n
While the groundhog was busy predicting six more weeks of winter, Cooper Norton proposed to his girlfriend of five years, Abigail Tillman. <\/p>\n
\u201cI was so surprised,\u201d Tillman continued. \u201cI did not see it coming whatsoever, but it was super sweet. I was so excited.\u201d<\/p>\n
The unique proposal warmed everyone\u2019s hearts while they were out in the cold for the Groundhog Day event.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s actually Abigail\u2019s favorite holiday,\u201d said Norton.<\/p>\n
You may be thinking, someone\u2019s favorite holiday is Groundhog Day?!<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s just so niche, I don\u2019t know,\u201d Tillman continued. \u201cIt\u2019s weird, and I enjoy the weirdness of it.\u201d<\/p>\n
There\u2019s your explanation, and a Groundhog Day engagement is something Norton said was in the works for a while. <\/p>\n
\u201cProbably since right after Groundhog Day last year,\u201d Norton continued. \u201cMy goal was to make it the most deserving proposal for her.\u201d<\/p>\n
What wasn\u2019t necessarily part of the plan was proposing on live TV. An 11 News sister station in Altoona aired the special proposal for everyone to see. <\/p>\n
When the station asked the couple to do an interview, Norton took the opportunity to get down on one knee. <\/p>\n
\u201cI watched the video back and jaw literally dropped,\u201d Tillman continued. \u201cThanks to family and friends for keeping the secret cause they did really good.\u201d<\/p>\n
A special moment the couple can look back on for the rest of their lives and play at their wedding, which plans for will soon begin.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m just really excited to start this next process and get the wedding all ready to go,\u201d said Norton.<\/p>\n
First, though, they\u2019re taking time to celebrate the engagement. <\/p>\n
\u201cHe\u2019s been waiting for me to be out of school to do this, so everything is ties up nicely into a bow,\u201d Tillman continued. \u201cExcited to celebrate with friends and family.\u201d<\/p>\n
