BENSALEM TOWNSHIP, PA \u2014 A 44-year-old man is being held on $1 million bail for a separate road rage incident from the officer-involved shooting in Bensalem on Saturday, authorities said.<\/p>\n
John Thomas Mathis, 44, was released from Jefferson Torresdale Hospital and formally arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Terrence Hughes on charges stemming from a separate road rage incident in Bristol Township on July 27, the Bucks County District Attorney’s Office said.<\/p>\n
The Bristol Township Police Department had an active arrest warrant for Mathis in connection with that incident, which involved collisions and the use of a baseball bat to smash a car’s windshield.<\/p>\n
Mathis is being held at the Bucks County Correctional Facility with bail set at $1 million, 10 percent. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Aug. 19. <\/p>\n
Mathis is also being held on his numerous other outstanding court matters, for which bench warrants had been issued. <\/p>\n
The investigation into the Aug. 2 officer-involved shooting in Bensalem Township, and the criminal investigation into the events that led up to the shooting, remain ongoing, authorities said.<\/p>\n
On Saturday, Mathis engaged in a series of aggressive driving maneuvers and brandished a firearm at a motorist, which later led to the confrontation with a Bensalem police officer. <\/p>\n
