BETHLEHEM \u2013 Several students in their What You Need Group at Bethlehem Elementary School wanted a way to share some good news at BES with their peers and teachers. And in December, the first edition of the \u201cBulldog Beat\u201d rolled off the presses with a terrific reception by students and staff.<\/p>\n
The group of fourth-grade students worked on the ideas for the quarterly paper during their weekly WYN enrichment sessions with BES Interventionist Ian Budrewicz. The staff of the \u201cBulldog Beat\u201d developed story ideas on the Halloween Dance and the Book Fair, did all the interviews, contacted members of the BES staff and PTO for accompanying pictures, and included a game page and a staff spotlight in the four-page first edition.<\/p>\n
Editor in Chief Thatcher Beatty said they were pleased with how the first edition turned out and are building on its success to deliver a second edition in March. \u201cWe are going to add more stories and maybe have an advice column,\u201d Beatty said.<\/p>\n
The WYN groups at Bethlehem Elementary School serve as a place for students to work on what they need \u2013 reading skills, math concepts, or one-on-one support.
