CUMRU TWP., Pa.\u00a0\u2013\u00a0Police in Berks County said a man accused of stabbing his uncle in Cumru Township on Monday has been taken into custody in Maryland.<\/p>\n
The Cumru Township Police Department said Maryland State Police took James Rice, 40, into custody without incident just after midnight on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
Police had earlier released a photo of Rice, 40, and asked for the public’s help locating him. Rice is accused of stabbing his 61-year-old uncle outside a home in the 1700 block of Acorn Drive.<\/p>\n
That happened around 4:40 p.m. Monday, police said. The victim was working outside when he was approached by his nephew, who stabbed him several times, police on scene said.<\/p>\n
Responding officers found the victim alert and conscious, suffering from multiple stab wounds. The victim said he had been stabbed by his nephew, Rice.<\/p>\n
The victim was taken to the hospital for treatment.<\/p>\n
Rice fled in his car, a 2004 dark blue Volvo XC70 station wagon, with PA license plate LRD-6371, police said.<\/p>\n
Cumru Township detectives obtained information for Rice’s phone, which identified his location in Maryland. Maryland State Police were contacted and provided information for Rice’s location at a rest stop, where they took him into custody.<\/p>\n
Rice will be extradited to Pennsylvania on the warrant relative to attempted homicide and related charges.<\/p>\n
