<\/a>We Are More Than the Narrative: Layers, Lines, and Voices mural at NWPA Collegiate Academy. Photo by Joel Natalie, TalkErie.com.<\/p>\nOn Thursday, February 5th, Erie\u2019s Public Schools unveiled a student-created mural at Northwest Pennsylvania Collegiate Academy.<\/p>\n
Created by art students under the direction of instructor Tara Shannon, \u201cWe Are More Than the Narrative: Layers, Lines, and Voices\u201d honors student voice as a force for challenging deficit-based narratives about urban schools and Erie\u2019s Public Schools, affirming students as storytellers shaping the district and the community. The mural is part of the \u201cDismantling the Deficit\u201d project and was made possible by Erie community researchers, and the generous financial support of Penn State Behrend\u2019s School of Humanities and Social Sciences.<\/p>\n
