BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Police in Bethlehem say a vehicle was recorded going 79 mph in a 35-mph zone as they were doing targeted enforcement earlier this week.<\/p>\n
On Tuesday, officers focused on Stefko Boulevard, as they addressed speeding complaints and recent traffic accidents, according to a Facebook post from city police.<\/p>\n
City police say seven citations were issued.<\/p>\n
The highest speed recorded was 79 mph in a 35-mph zone, police said.<\/p>\n
Police say excessive speed reduces reaction time and increases the severity of crashes, especially on busy corridors where pedestrians, businesses, and neighborhoods are nearby.<\/p>\n
Bethlehem police say their goal is to slow traffic down and prevent injuries before they happen.<\/p>\n
Also on Tuesday, officers conducted a PennDOT-funded Click It or Ticket seatbelt detail, resulting in 17 citations and warnings, according to the Facebook post.<\/p>\n
Police say seatbelts remain one of the simplest ways to reduce serious injuries in a crash.<\/p>\n
