Both drivers were injured, one seriously, when a minivan collided with a pickup truck Tuesday on Route 100 in eastern Berks County, state police at Reading said.<\/p>\n
Lee Afflerbach, 75, of Barto and Elizabeth Irish, 21, of Zionsville, Lehigh County, were taken by ambulance to Lehigh Valley Hospital for injuries suffered in the crash shortly before 10:30 a.m. in Hereford Township.<\/p>\n
Irish is believed to have suffered a broken leg, while Afflerbach was evaluated for suspected minor injuries to his legs, arms and face, troopers said.<\/p>\n
Troopers said:<\/p>\n
Afflerbach\u2019s pickup truck was northbound on Chestnut Street (Route 100) while the minivan was southbound.<\/p>\n
Afflerbach attempted a left turn onto Nanny Goat Hill Road despite oncoming traffic. Irish\u2019s minivan collided with the truck\u2019s front quarter panel.<\/p>\n
Careening off the truck, the vehicle struck a snowbank on the left shoulder before coming to rest along the right shoulder.<\/p>\n
The truck came to rest across both travel lanes of Route 100.<\/p>\n
Both vehicles were towed.<\/p>\n
Afflerbach was cited for an improper left turn.<\/p>\n
