There was an explosion of knitted items in a Berks County park this weekend.<\/p>\n
Karin Mallett shows us how the “scarf bombing” came together.<\/p>\n
At a scarf bombing, volunteers leave knitted scarves and winter wear all over- tied to poles, parking meters- anywhere really – and they are all free for the taking. It’s kindness you can wrap yourself up in.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The knitted scarves came from all over Berks County and they each had a tag attached that read “made with love- take it you’re cold.” The hope is to keep our neighbors warm this winter and spread a little kindness.<\/p>\n
This particular scarf bombing was organized by former Berks County Controller Sandy Graffius. She’s been collecting scarves since last year from local knitting groups.<\/p>\n
She says she was overwhelmed by how many people wanted to help and pretty soon her basement was full of bags and boxes of yarn.<\/p>\n
One of the knitters for the project was Polly Mathys. She says she likes to call it the Yarn Project that Got Out of Hand.<\/p>\n
Polly says when she first heard about the scarf bombing she aimed to knit about 10 or so, and ended up knitting more than 50.<\/p>\n
