{"id":107159,"date":"2026-02-06T17:46:17","date_gmt":"2026-02-06T17:46:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/107159\/"},"modified":"2026-02-06T17:46:17","modified_gmt":"2026-02-06T17:46:17","slug":"initiative-started-to-open-new-homeless-shelter-in-erie-county","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/107159\/","title":{"rendered":"Initiative started to open new homeless shelter in Erie County"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Erie County may be getting a new homeless shelter by the end of the year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">It\u2019s all a part of a new initiative called Hope Starts Here that works to expand access to shelter, stability and long-term housing solutions in Erie County.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\"><a class=\"link \" href=\"https:\/\/www.yourerie.com\/news\/local-news\/erie-city-and-county-property-tax-bills-sent-out\/?ipid=promo-link-block1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Erie City and County property tax bills sent out;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\"> Erie City and County property tax bills sent out <\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The new shelter, Helping Hands, is still in its early phases of development, but it will work to provide those who are homeless with eventual stability.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cOur mission is to restore dignity, stability for homeless individuals and families. We are going to be a multi-stage homeless shelter,\u201d said Joe Cancilla, executive director of Helping Hands Homeless Shelter. \u201cThe end goal is to obviously get them apartments, housing, subsidized housing,\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Cancilla hopes to have the building open by this fall.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Copyright 2026 Nexstar Media, Inc.
