The Philadelphia Eagles<\/a>‘ offense definitely appeared to right the ship against the Minnesota Vikings this past Sunday, at least as far as the passing game was concerned.<\/p>\n

Jalen Hurts went 19-for-23 with 326 yards and three touchdowns, wide receivers A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith both had monster performances and the Eagles didn’t turn the ball over once.<\/p>\n

It doesn’t necessarily mean that all of Philadelphia’s problems have instantly been fixed (the Eagles still need to get Saquon Barkley going, and the defense has clear issues), but it was a major step in the right direction.<\/p>\n

Regardless, Philadelphia may want to consider making a couple of moves to bolster its roster before the NFL<\/a> trade deadline, and Jimmy Kempski of The Philly Voice<\/a> has offered up an interesting suggestion: Las Vegas Raiders<\/a> tight end Michael Mayer.<\/p>\n

More specifically, Kempski has the Eagles sending a third-round draft pick to the Raiders in exchange for Mayer, who probably doesn’t have an incredibly bright future in Las Vegas thanks to the presence of Brock Bowers (who is currently sidelined with a knee injury). <\/p>\n

With Philadelphia’s own tight end, Dallas Goedert, slated to hit free agency this coming offseason, it makes sense for the Birds to get ahead of things and acquire a replacement now.<\/p>\n

The Raiders selected Mayer in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft and certainly intended for him to develop into a critical piece in their offense, but then they went and nabbed Bowers in the first round the following year. That obviously muddied Mayer’s role, and it put his long-term future with Las Vegas in doubt.<\/p>\n

Mayer flashed significant talent at Notre Dame, posting back-to-back 800-yard campaigns to end his collegiate career. He then flashed some potential during his rookie season in Vegas, catching 27 passes for 304 yards and a couple of touchdowns. He has logged 12 catches for 107 yards and a score in 2025.<\/p>\n

Still just 24 years old and with one more year remaining on his contract, it would definitely make sense for the Eagles to try and acquire him. Goedert is now 30 and has a very checkered injury history, so as good as he has been when healthy, Philadelphia probably won’t be re-signing him come March.<\/p>\n

It’s also important to note that the Eagles own three third-round picks in the 2026 draft, so parting with a third to acquire Mayer wouldn’t be a huge deal.<\/p>\n
