UPPER DARBY, Pennsylvania (WPVI) — An Upper Darby daycare founded in 1990 is currently without a home, following a fire that turned their operation upside down.<\/p>\n
Darlene’s Wee Care 4 Kids<\/a> had operated in the multi-purpose building on 6800 Market Street.<\/p>\n It was the evening of January 8, 2026, when a fire broke out on the 4th floor. The Upper Darby Township Fire Department responded<\/a>, extinguishing the fire and reporting no injuries.<\/p>\n The daycare, situated one floor below the fire, suffered water damage in a large portion of their facility.<\/p>\n Darlene’s Wee Care 4 Kids suspended operations. Fortunately, they report a local daycare by the name of ‘New Life’ opened their doors, accommodating roughly 90 children from Darlene’s alongside their pre-existing teachers and care providers.<\/p>\n Unfortunately, they say that left roughly 30 to 40 children to either stay with family or find a new daycare.<\/p>\n Darlene facilitated a field trip for children and their families to take their minds off the situation.<\/p>\n Action News met staff and students at Upper Darby Township + Sellers Memorial Free Public Library to share their story.<\/p>\n Watch the video above to learn more.<\/p>\n Anyone interested in reaching out to Darlene’s Wee Care 4 Kids or learning more can visit their website.<\/a><\/p>\n
