{"id":109209,"date":"2026-02-09T17:00:07","date_gmt":"2026-02-09T17:00:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/109209\/"},"modified":"2026-02-09T17:00:07","modified_gmt":"2026-02-09T17:00:07","slug":"boil-water-advisory-lifted-for-nearly-100000-pennsylvania-american-water-customers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/109209\/","title":{"rendered":"Boil water advisory lifted for nearly 100,000 Pennsylvania American Water customers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/pittsburgh\/news\/boil-water-notice-allegheny-and-washington-county-pa-american-water\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" data-absolute=\"true\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">boil-water advisory<\/a> that had been in effect for nearly 100,000 Pennsylvania American Water customers across Washington and Allegheny counties was lifted on Monday after a second set of water samples tested negative for bacterial contamination.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Pennsylvania American Water said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/newsroom.amwater.com\/2026-02-09-Drinking-water-problem-corrected-Boil-water-advisory-lifted-for-portions-of-Pennsylvania-American-Waters-Western-Washington-County-Service-Area\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" data-absolute=\"true\">media release<\/a> on Monday morning that &#8220;acceptable test results were obtained from samples collected on Feb. 7, 2026, and Feb. 8, 2026,&#8221; and &#8220;the issue has been resolved.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Governmental regulations require a second negative test result before the boil water advisory can be lifted.<\/p>\n<p>Water main break disrupts service for thousands of customers<\/p>\n<p>A water main break in Elrama, Washington County, on Friday night contributed to the advisory.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/amwater.com\/alerts\/extended\/boil-water-advisory-issued-for-customers-in-portions-of-pennsylvania-american-waters-allegheny-and-washington-county-service-areas\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Pennsylvania American Water said early Saturday morning<\/a>\u00a0that the advisory was issued because a power surge depleted water storage at the tank near the Aldrich Water Treatment plant in Elrama and that a loss of water pressure could have caused contamination in the system through backflow or back siphonage.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/elramavfc24\/posts\/pfbid02K5NAqJxVPfPMJtAkS1MojX2uncNJeyRUMAzgpgcxbPRXVG1nRjFBTvzpWpDAHbh1l\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">The Elrama Volunteer Fire Company of Union Township said<\/a>\u00a0there was a 48-inch water main break around 11:30 p.m. on Friday that happened in front of their station.
