{"id":109321,"date":"2026-02-09T19:28:59","date_gmt":"2026-02-09T19:28:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/109321\/"},"modified":"2026-02-09T19:28:59","modified_gmt":"2026-02-09T19:28:59","slug":"afghan-community-of-erie-obtains-cemetery-property","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/109321\/","title":{"rendered":"Afghan Community of Erie obtains cemetery property"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The Afghan Community of Erie signed an official contract to obtain land at the Laurel Hill Cemetery.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The contract was made official by the Erie Cemetery Association during a signing event held at the Afghan Community Center.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The space bought will reserve 50 graves specifically for the Afghan community at the cemetery.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Members said they chose Laurel Hill because of the supportive community around it.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cIt\u2019s really close to the city and it\u2019s a really good area. We like the people around here since we came to Erie. We found Erie a very nice place, calm and good people,\u201d said Rustanali Ansari, an Afghan community member.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The 50 grave spots cost a total of just under $52,000.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Copyright 2026 Nexstar Media, Inc.
