PITTSBURGH \u2014 A young man struck by a vehicle on Pittsburgh\u2019s South Side and left for dead in the middle of the road is talking to Channel 11 from his hospital bed.\u00a0 <\/p>\n
Jordan Dennis has broken bones from his face to his legs and bruises all over his body.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cMy friends said that they thought I had passed,\u201d Jordan Dennis tells Channel 11. \u201cI had a tube down my throat, tubes hanging out of my legs, blood draining out of my legs for days.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Around 2:30 a.m. Sunday, Dennis was crossing East Carson Street near South 13th\u00a0Street when he was struck by a vehicle.\u00a0The driver stopped briefly before taking off, never to be seen again.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Despite being left in the middle of East Carson Street to die, he\u2019s up and walking with a lot of help.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cDoctors told me I should be\u00a0paralyzed from the waist down,\u201d Dennis added.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
In surveillance video from a nearby business, you can just make out the figure of Jordan Dennis crossing the road before he goes out of frame. Witnesses confirm that\u2019s Dennis.\u00a0About a minute later, you see traffic hit the brakes, and first responders rush to his aid after a witness called 911 to say a man was hit and was unresponsive in the road.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Leila\u00a0Crawford lives nearby and heard the crash.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cHe was just lying on the ground and he was not moving,\u201d Crawford said. \u201cI truly thought he was dead.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Crawford said she was stunned by what the driver did next.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cHe stopped for a second, he did get out, he said \u2018please don\u2019t move him\u2019 …\u00a0Then he got back in his car and drove away.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
We asked Dennis how he feels about the driver leaving him for dead.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cMy friends said that they thought I had passed,\u201d Dennis said.\u00a0\u201cI guess maybe he just didn\u2019t want to face the music.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Still, Jordan Dennis says he has no hatred. He\u2019s focused on recovering, finding out who hit him and moving forward.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cGod was with me 100% of the way through,\u201d Dennis said. \u201cBeing able to even take steps the day after I was hit like that.\u00a0Even being able to get up and go to the bathroom on my own is a blessing.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
