(WHTM)\u2013 Pennsylvania Attorney General Dave Sunday called on Congress to protect children online by passing the Pennsylvania Senate\u2019s Kids Online Safety Act (KOSA).<\/p>\n
Sunday, along with a bipartisan coalition of attorneys general, wrote and signed a letter to House and Senate leadership urging passage of the Senate version of KOSA, which enhances and preserves the state\u2019s authority to enforce and strengthen online protections for minors, according to the AG\u2019s office.<\/p>\n
The AG\u2019s office said that the Senate version of KOSA also includes a key Duty of Care requirement.<\/p>\n
The letter, signed by 40 attorneys general, was circulated to the House and Senate before the House considered its version of KOSA, which the AG\u2019s office said would limit states\u2019 authority to enact laws and regulations governing online safety.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am personally aware of the very real dangers children face online every single day, and am proud to say the great work we have done at the state level has only just begun,\u201d Attorney General Sunday said. \u201cAs a father, I understand why this issue matters so much to parents and families. It is well-documented \u2014 and known to social media companies \u2014 that extended use of social media is harmful. Parents deserve to know they have a strong advocate willing and able to act quickly as new threats emerge. Congress has an opportunity \u2013 and a responsibility \u2013 to put children first.\u201d<\/p>\n
