{"id":111492,"date":"2026-02-11T22:37:10","date_gmt":"2026-02-11T22:37:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/111492\/"},"modified":"2026-02-11T22:37:10","modified_gmt":"2026-02-11T22:37:10","slug":"pennsylvania-hunters-get-final-chance-with-extra-pheasants-as-season-ends-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/111492\/","title":{"rendered":"Pennsylvania hunters get final chance with extra pheasants as season ends"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">With hunting season wrapping up at the end of the month, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pa.gov\/agencies\/pgc\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Pennsylvania Game Commission;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Pennsylvania Game Commission<\/a> is giving hunters one last shot at small game with the release of extra pheasants.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">FOX43 hit the field with the PGC in York County for a release and tagged along as hunters made the most of these final days. Hunter Evan Stouffer started his Wednesday early, looking for those pheasants.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cI&#8217;ve been out here since about 6:30 this morning, yeah, waiting for the sun to come up, waiting for the truck to pull through,\u201d Stouffer said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">State Game Warden Cameron Murphy helped organize the release of 130 birds in York County.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cThe idea is the crew gets the birds out as quickly as they can,&#8221; Murphy said. &#8220;Lets them spread out a little bit. Then the hunters can go after them and see if they can find them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">With avian flu impacting some commercial farms, the PGC asked suppliers to raise extra pheasants as a precaution, in case of any health issues within the flock.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cIt\u2019s a great thing we have a couple extra birds this year to put out and give people that last opportunity to harvest one before they have to wait until next year,\u201d Murphy said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The commission is releasing more than 8,000 birds through Thursday across six regions of the Commonwealth.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Stouffer, even though this is his first-year hunting, is already counting down to next season.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cI mean, it\u2019s a lot of fun. Getting outside, having an opportunity like this through the pheasant stocking program.
