Student Government Board is attending a conference this week in Washington D.C. to meet with representatives and other student government boards. Its weekly meeting was hosted Monday night over Teams.\u00a0<\/p>\n
President Marley Pinsky said SGB is attending the Atlantic Coast Conference Advocacy Days<\/a> program conference, an event hosted by a different ACC school each year allowing students across ACC colleges and universities<\/a> to connect with state officials. Virginia Tech is hosting the conference this year.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201c[Students at the conference] have meetings with representatives and senators with the goal to advocate for issues related to higher education or issues that are pertinent for students,\u201d Pinsky said.<\/p>\n Pinsky said SGB\u2019s goals for this conference are to push for an increase in funding towards research<\/a> and student aid programs<\/a> at Pitt and to talk with state representatives.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cWe have five meetings tomorrow with representatives from Pennsylvania on a federal level,\u201d Pinsky said.<\/p>\n Along with SGB\u2019s collaboration with state representatives, Pinsky added that the conference is an opportunity to bridge multiple student government programs across other ACC colleges and universities.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cWe [will] do a lot of networking with other student governments as well, so we can learn and benchmark with each other,\u201d Pinsky said.\u00a0<\/p>\n Pinsky said SGB will return to campus before the weekend.\u00a0<\/p>\n Allocations:\u00a0\n<\/p>\n Some of God\u2019s Children Gospel Choir<\/a> requested $2,500.00 for general funds. The board approved this request in full.\u00a0<\/p>\n Sigma Tau Delta<\/a> requested $10,423.96 for a conference. The board amended and approved this request to $3,186.85.\u00a0<\/p>\n Rainbow Alliance<\/a> requested $7,000.00 for an on-campus program. The board approved this request in full.\u00a0<\/p>\n African Student Organization<\/a> requested $6,642.89 for an on-campus program. The board amended and approved this request to $5,560.18.\u00a0<\/p>\n Asian Student Alliance<\/a> requested $2,024.83 for a conference. The board approved this request in full.\u00a0<\/p>\n Chinese American Student Association<\/a> requested $2,037.16 for a conference. The board approved this request in full.\u00a0<\/p>\n
