A project to redevelop the Eastern Hills mall site in Williamsville is receiving some major support.<\/p>\n
Gov. Kathy Hochul on Thursday announced more than $30 million in capital grants for Erie County that will help redevelop the mall into a mixed-use town center. The project will include residential, commercial, hospitality and entertainment and recreation uses, the governor’s office says.<\/p>\n
The $30 million grant specifically will be used to expand and improve the sewer system along Transit Road, including the installation of a new sewer line and construction of a new pumping station.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are unlocking the future of economic development along Transit Road as this critical infrastructure investment will help transform the Eastern Hills Mall into a vibrant, mixed-use town center,\u201d Hochul said in a statement. \u201cThe redevelopment of the Eastern Hills Mall offers an opportunity to repurpose an underutilized commercial property to boost the local economy, solve our housing crisis, create good-paying jobs and improve the quality of life for all Western New Yorkers.\u201d<\/p>\n
Officials say improvements to wastewater facilities would be conducted in both the towns of Clarence and Amherst. Erie County has already commissioned a $100,000 study and provided $3 million for design and engineering.
