Student Government Board addressed concerns about the Trump administration\u2019s compact<\/a> and discussed the recently announced Menstrual Equity Proposal during Tuesday night\u2019s meeting in Nordy\u2019s Place.<\/p>\n

Board member Andrew Elliott addressed recent concerns<\/a> surrounding the Trump administration\u2019s compact, and how the compact could potentially affect Pitt. The compact contains recommendations such as removing DEI from admissions to promote conservatism on college campuses.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere was a great deal of discussion about Pitt\u2019s stance on [the compact],\u201d Elliott said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Elliott said the Faculty Senate<\/a> President Kristin Kanthak and Provost Joseph McCarthy, who was sitting in for Chancellor Joan Gabel, attempted to address those concerns in a speech to the Faculty Assembly<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo clear answers were given as to the plan,\u201d Elliott said.<\/p>\n

Elliott said he hoped the administration would include student organizations like SGB in these discussions.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve asked to be included in that conversation as student leaders,\u201d Elliott said.<\/p>\n

Board members Kylie Baker and Rachel Smookler announced a collaboration at last week\u2019s meeting<\/a> with You & MEI<\/a> to promote menstrual equity across campus.<\/p>\n

\u201cMenstrual equity is health care, and it should be taken care of like health care concerns,\u201d Baker said.<\/p>\n

Baker said this week that SGB completed the first draft of the proposal. She said they will continue to collaborate with University offices to promote this initiative.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will navigate future steps with sending [our initiative] to the proper channels in collaboration with certain [University] offices,\u201d Baker said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Board member Shanthi Bhaskar said Saxby\u2019s is promoting a bring-your-own-cup initiative.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will continue to uplift that initiative so more students know about it,\u201d Bhaskar said.<\/p>\n

Allocations:<\/p>\n

The Fann Club<\/a> requested $48,465.73 for an on-campus program. The board returned this request to the Allocations Committee<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Interfraternity Council<\/a> requested $4,995.50 for national dues. The board approved this request in full.<\/p>\n

Students for Justice in Palestine<\/a> at Pitt requested $3,369.75 for an on-campus fundraising event. The board denied this request in full.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Club Softball at Pitt<\/a> requested $2,140 for a competition. The board approved this request in full.<\/p>\n

Club Baseball at Pitt<\/a> requested $2,171 for general funds. The board approved this request in full.<\/p>\n

National Society for Black Engineers<\/a> requested $2,520.10 for a conference. The board approved this request in full.<\/p>\n
