Youngsville, PA – A blood drive held Friday, February 13th at the Free Methodist Church in Youngsville drew over 70 donors in honor of Avery Dalrymple, a young crash survivor whose life was saved with donated blood.<\/p>\n
On January 21st, Avery was seriously hurt in a crash caused by dangerous winter road conditions in Warren County. She was first taken to Warren General Hospital and later transported to UPMC Children\u2019s Hospital of Pittsburgh, where she received 13 units of blood and underwent multiple life-saving surgeries.<\/p>\n
Her medical team said the care she received played a critical role in saving her life.<\/p>\n
This week\u2019s blood drive was organized by the Community Blood Bank after Avery\u2019s family expressed gratitude for the blood that was available when they needed it most.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe community response has been great. We have seen so many donors of all ages come out to support Avery,\u201d said Raven Edinger, mobile drive coordinator for the Community Blood Bank of Northwest Pennsylvania and Western New York. \u201cAvery\u2019s family wanted a way to give back because they were very appreciative that the blood was available for them when they needed it the most, so we organized this blood drive to give back to the community. Every donor that gives one pint of blood can save up to three lives.\u201d<\/p>\n
Organizers said the blood collected will go to patients across the region facing medical emergencies and surgeries where blood products are needed.<\/p>\n
A second drive in Avery\u2019s honor will held on Saturday, February 14th at the Community Blood Bank of Northwest Pennsylvania and Western New York\u2019s location at 2646 Peach St., Erie, PA.<\/p>\n
