Clear skies and rising temperatures provided the perfect backdrop for the Archbald Winter Carnival Saturday, celebrating the borough\u2019s150th Anniversary.<\/p>\n

Organizers moved the event from Feb. 7 because of frigid temperatures and the celebration fell on Valentine\u2019s Day, prompting organizers to add inside crafts and activities based on the holiday.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are trying to make it a carnival with as much free to the public as possible,\u201d\u00a0 Kayleigh Cornell of the Archbald Neighborhood Association\u00a0 said. \u201cWe have something here for all ages.\u201d<\/p>\n

Those attending enjoyed carriage rides, outdoor game stations and crafts set up inside the borough building.<\/p>\n

For those spending time outdoors at the event, local fire departments set up fire pits to keep attendees warm and to give them a chance to make a s\u2019more or two.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe tried to include as many organizations and groups as possible to make it a nice community event,\u201d Cornell said.<\/p>\n

The carnival was the kick-off event of a year of special activities celebrating the borough\u2019s anniversary.<\/p>\n

Soup, hot chocolate and other food items provided warmth and sustenance\u00a0for those making their way through the event.<\/p>\n

In addition, the event boasted free prizes for every game and a touch-a-truck station.<\/p>\n

Melissa Reese of Archbald brought out her granddaughter Melissa Struthers for an afternoon of fun.<\/p>\n

Reese is new to the borough and appreciates the free family activities it has provided throughout the year.<\/p>\n

Firefighter Jason Santerangelo came out to the event as part of the touch-a-truck activity.<\/p>\n

His son Caleb, 7, decked in a firefighter\u2019s outfit, was enjoying the day and time with his father.<\/p>\n

He hopes to someday become a firefighter, which is a family tradition.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a good thing for the community,\u201d Jason Santerangelo said. \u201cIt\u2019s the perfect weather.\u201d<\/p>\n

Archbald police officer Alan Wright was on hand to provide attendees with information about the drones recently acquired by the department.<\/p>\n
