(WOLF) \u2014 The first-ever Battle of the Badges turned the ice at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.moheganarenapa.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Mohegan Arena<\/a> into a hometown showdown, where rivalry met camaraderie under the roar of cheering fans.<\/p>\n<p>Wilkes-Barre and Scranton first responders played hockey not just to compete, but to support a cause bigger than the game.<\/p>\n<p>Jeremy Cook of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wilkes-barre.city\/wilkes-barre-city-fire-dept\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Wilkes-Barre Fire Department<\/a> explained what both teams were playing for.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey\u2019re here doing a charity game supporting <a href=\"https:\/\/patriotscove.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Patriots Cove<\/a>. <a href=\"https:\/\/scrantonpa.gov\/your-government\/sfd\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Scranton firefighters,<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/scrantonpa.gov\/your-government\/spd\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"> Scranton police<\/a> vs. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wilkes-barre.city\/wilkes-barre-city-fire-dept\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Wilkes-Barre firefighters <\/a>and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wilkes-barre.city\/police\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Wilkes-Barre police <\/a>officers,\u201d said Cook.<\/p>\n<p>Cook noted the incredible energy of the game and how truly special the event was.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt&#8217;s a great event. It brings the fire and police communities together. Supporting that particular charity that supports us, supports veterans is awesome. Getting us out for a fun activity during the day, and then we&#8217;re coming back for the game at night for the Pens,\u201d said Cook.<\/p>\n<p>All the funds raised from the Battle of the Badges game and the later <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wbspenguins.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Wilkes Barre\/Scranton Penguins <\/a>game went to support<a href=\"https:\/\/patriotscove.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"> Patriots Cove,<\/a> a nonprofit that provides experience, service projects, and retreats to help first responders, veterans, and their caregivers heal in life after service.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE CO.
