Police say a 34-year-old Scranton man threw an unknown substance on the ground that caused a parole officer to become ill after handling it.<\/p>\n
City police responded to 409 Olive St. \u2014 the suspect\u2019s address \u2014 on Wednesday for a report of two parole officers with possible fentanyl exposure, according to a criminal complaint.<\/p>\n
Jennifer Kristyniak, a state parole officer, told police that Grant Struble, who was on parole, tossed something onto the floor when told to provide a urine sample, officers said.<\/p>\n
When another parole officer \u2014 Maria Losapio \u2014 put on a glove and picked up the item, she told Kristyniak that she felt faint and sick immediately after handling the substance, according to the criminal complaint.<\/p>\n
Losapio was administered Narcan \u2014 an opioid-overdose antidote \u2014 before police and emergency medical personnel arrived on scene, officers said.<\/p>\n
Struble refused to speak with police about the incident, according to the criminal complaint.<\/p>\n
Police described the item thrown by Struble as a \u201csmall piece of a gray plastic bag containing a while powder\/crystal-like substance.\u201d<\/p>\n
The substance will be sent to a state police lab for testing, officers said.<\/p>\n
Police charged Struble with recklessly endangering another person, harassment and possession of a controlled substance.<\/p>\n
As of Sunday, Struble remained in Lackawanna County Prison in lieu of $50,000 bail.<\/p>\n
