CHARLESTON, S.C.\u2013 The University of Pennsylvania softball team wrapped up play at the Lowcountry Classic, falling to Charleston, 10-8. The loss for the Quakers drops them to 3-2, while the win for Charleston brings them to 7-4. * Three Quakers (Dani Freer<\/a>, Delaney Smith<\/a>, Alexis Youngren<\/a>) had a multi-hit game.<\/p>\n * Sophomore Ainsley Pemberton<\/a> had four strikeouts in the loss. The Quakers struck out six total. The first inning also saw senior Jade Montgomery<\/a> deliver a bases-clearing double, her second and third RBI of the year. Freshman Jaz Johson and senior Delaney Smith<\/a> added to the total with RBI singles.<\/p>\n Then the tides turned. The Cougars answered as quickly as they got down, putting up four runs in the third and three in the fourth to make it a one-run game after four frames. The Quakers tried to slow down Charleston but just weren’t able to keep the gap closed.<\/p>\n With two outs in the bottom of the fifth and the count sitting at 3-2, sophomore Lily Thorpe delivered for the Cougars, cracking a two-run shot that put Charleston up 9-8. \nHow It Happened
\nAfter starting the year with a five-year best of 3-1, the Quakers looked like they were well on their way to 2026’s fourth win. The Quakers found themselves up 8-0 after two innings. Sophomore Gigi Ganje<\/a> continued to lead the charge. Ganje delivered her fourth long ball of the season, three more than the entirety of 2025.<\/p>\n
