A 42-year-old Shickshinny woman faces charges after removing security devices from $658 worth of merchandise at Dick\u2019s House of Sport in Scranton, police said.<\/p>\n
Officers responded to 440 Viewmont Drive on Wednesday around 2:19 p.m. for the report of retail theft, according to a criminal complaint.<\/p>\n
Kenneth Mascaro \u2014 a loss-prevention officer for Dick\u2019s \u2014 informed police that a female, later identified as Angela Sweet, took clothing from various racks, regardless of size, and repeatedly entered and exited the women\u2019s dressing room, officers said.<\/p>\n
Additionally, Sweet left the store and reentered, returning to the women\u2019s dressing area where the loss-prevention officer found a broken security tag on a bench, police said.<\/p>\n
Police officers approached Sweet when she exited the dressing room with a shopping cart, according to the criminal complaint.<\/p>\n
Initially, Mascaro just wanted police to remove Sweet from the store and issue a trespass warning, before he discovered multiple security tags were removed from the merchandise, officers said.<\/p>\n
When officers noticed blue ink on Sweet\u2019s fingers, she tried to wipe it off and told them the discoloration was caused by dry skin, according to the criminal complaint.<\/p>\n
Police determined Sweet removed six security tags from the following items: two Nike fleece tops, one Nike men\u2019s retro item, one men\u2019s North Face Carto item, one Jordan Dri-Fit item, and one Nike Air Max 90 item.<\/p>\n
After receiving permission to search Sweet\u2019s purse, officers found two of the merchandise items, two wire cutters \u2014 potentially used to remove security tags \u2014 and a broken security tag, police said.<\/p>\n
Once at police headquarters, officers learned Sweet had an active bench warrant for retail theft out of Luzerne County, according to the criminal complaint.<\/p>\n
A check of her criminal history showed at least three, possibly four, prior retail theft convictions, ranging from misdemeanor to felony offenses, officers said.<\/p>\n
Police charged Sweet, 1045 Shickshinny Valley Road, with retail theft \u2014 tampering with security devices \u2014 and possessing instruments of crime.<\/p>\n
