SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA CO. (WOLF) \u2014 Clouds of steam filled the air inside the Electric City Trolley Museum<\/a> as it marked 27 years of hosting the Pennsylvania Garden Railway Society<\/a> over Presidents Day weekend.<\/p>\n

The multi-day celebration concluded on Presidents’ Day and gave visitors the chance to experience detailed steam-powered and electric model train displays up close.<\/p>\n

Model train enthusiasts showcased a variety of steam-powered locomotives, each running on different fuel sources and mechanisms. <\/p>\n

Clem O\u2019Jevich, president of Warrior Run Locomotive Works<\/a>, explained what visitors experienced throughout the weekend and during the event\u2019s final day.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese are all basically the engines you see here. They’re all steam-powered. They run on either alcohol, butane or coal, and it’s just like a real train, but it’s miniature. On the other side, we run electric and battery powered stuff. And we run steam over there too,\u201d said O\u2019Jevich.<\/p>\n

From the first whistle to Presidents’ Day, the event drew train lovers from hours away, said O\u2019Jevich and Mike Moore of Aikenback Live Steamers.<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cWe had great participation, which is important,\u201d said O\u2019Jevich.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe had about 30 runners at least, or maybe more. And they come from as far south as Virginia, Vermont, and New Hampshire,\u201d said Moore.<\/p>\n

Bringing back childhood memories while opening the door to new ones, the event combined nostalgia with hands-on help, organizers said.<\/p>\n

\u201cPeople that don’t know anything about it, they come and then other people are in their childhood that come, and remember they had trains under the Christmas tree. And then we have some people that bring some challenged kids and they really enjoy it. Were glad that we can accommodate those kind of people, and show them what we do here and how we do it,\u201d said O\u2019Jevich.<\/p>\n

\u201cToday we helped the guy figure out how to get his train working,\u201d said Moore.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s here with his mother; he was challenged, but a very nice young man. And it\u2019s enjoyable,\u201d said O\u2019Jevich.<\/p>\n

Co-hosting the 27th Annual Winter Meet with the Pennsylvania Garden Railway Society <\/a>were Warrior Run Locomotive Works<\/a>, Aikenback Live Steamers<\/a>, and Wyoming Valley Live Steamers. <\/a><\/p>\n

Organizers said the museum is looking forward to welcoming the Pennsylvania Garden Railway Society for its 28th visit and is excited to greet new visitors in the coming year. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA CO.
