ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Fryers are working overtime ahead of Fasnacht Day.<\/p>\n
At Egypt Star Bakery in Allentown, it’s all hands-on deck.<\/p>\n
“A lot of time and a lot of people involved just preparing the dough with our old fashion recipes,” said Les Sipos the owner of Egypt Star Bakery.<\/p>\n
Owner Les and his team are preparing for the busiest day of the year.<\/p>\n
“I started my ingredients last week. Got them in Friday and more coming in tomorrow morning,” Sipos said about the preparations.<\/p>\n
Now, bakers are working around the clock to prepare the Pennsylvania Dutch delicacy.<\/p>\n
Egypt Star Bakery will make about 3,500 dozen fasnacht’s for Fat Tuesday. After more than 30 years, the team works like a well-oiled machine. While the process is the same, there is a new favorite flavor this year.<\/p>\n
“It was always glazed, but this year it’s powdered. For some reason it changed,” said Sipos.<\/p>\n
About 20 minutes away in Easton, Eric and the staff at Easton Baking Company are also preparing.<\/p>\n
“Two or three days of preparation. Solid 24 hours of work we are going to be going through to get things prepared fresh,” said Eric Butrym co-owner of Easton Baking Company.<\/p>\n
Easton Baking Company will prepare 20,000 donuts. It has been 7 years since Eric opened the business on Fasnacht day.<\/p>\n
“A famous mistake we made. We ran out of ingredients because we weren’t sure how to prepare. I’m happy to say we fixed that and every year has been better and better,” said Butrym about what has changed over the last 7 years.<\/p>\n
