A former Steeler was also released with Hill from the Miami Dolphins.

Young Steelers linemen are getting acknowledgement from their high-profile predecessors. And we tell you how much the Steelers racked up in league fines for 2025.

Spoiler alert: It was a lot.

Time for Tyreek?

The Miami Dolphins have released Tyreek Hill. Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio says Pittsburgh could be a destination for the former All-Pro wide receiver.

“The Steelers could be in play,” Florio said. “They’ve got DK Metcalf and, what? Calvin Austin III. No offense. He’s not Tyreek Hill.”

Hill is now 31. He is coming off a major knee injury. He has faced domestic violence allegations in the past. But Florio seems to think that Hill will still be in demand.

Along with the Steelers, Florio mentioned the Chargers, Broncos, Patriots, Ravens, Seahawks and Packers as teams that might have an interest.

It’ll be interesting to see what kind of contract Hill can demand. A year ago, he counted $27.6 million against Miami’s cap. The Steelers are entering 2026 with $44.9 million in cap space, according to OverTheCap.com. That’s ninth-best in the NFL.

Of the teams Florio mentioned, the Chargers ($82.9 million) and the Seahawks ($63.6 million) have more.

Not alone

Hill isn’t the only veteran who got a pink slip from Miami Monday. So did guard James Daniels, receiver Nick Westbrooke-Ikhine and pass rusher Bradley Chubb.

Daniels used to play for the Steelers. He was a starter in Pittsburgh from 2022-2024. But his ‘24 campaign was cut short by an Achilles tendon injury in Week 4. He never played for the Steelers again.

In March, Daniels signed a three-year, $24 million contract with the Dolphins. He was their starting right guard in Week 1 and suffered a pectoral injury. The 28-year-old was then placed on injured reserve for the rest of the year.

Chubb had 8.5 sacks in 17 games this year after missing 2024 while recovering from ACL surgery in 2024.

SACK! The former All-Pro gave a hearty endorsement to the team’s current center, Zach Frazier.

“I think he’s really solid. I think he’s doing a great job,” Hartings said of Frazier. “I don’t think he’s the kind of guy that pops like Maurkice Pouncey. He reminds me of the mentality of Alan Faneca. The effort that he gives on a play and then gets back to the huddle. In between quarters, he’s the first guy down the field sprinting down there to get ready.”

Hartings thinks Frazier could someday be mentioned in the same breath with other ex-Steelers who were All Pros at center, such as himself, Pouncey, Mike Webster and Dermontti Dawson.

“He’s a leader. That’s what a center has to do. Be the leader of the team. Be consistent. Be there. And for a couple of years now, he’s done that,” Hartings added. “We have some positions that are very important. The ownership feels that way about that position. If we can lock him down for 10 years, it’d be great to put his picture up on the wall at the complex.”

Meanwhile, on 93.7 The Fan on Monday, former Steelers All-Pro guard David DeCastro had similar praise for Mason McCormick.

“As a right guard, (I am) probably one of the only people so used to just watching that position. Even casually watching, your eyes just always go to him,” DeCastro said. “He’s playing really well. It’s kind of fun to watch him. I got a chance to meet him on the field. Really good energy.”

McCormick and Frazier are both entering Year 3 of their entry-level contracts.

A ‘fine’ mess

According to “The Action Network,” NFL fines dropped 30% from 2024 to 2025.

However, the Steelers trailed only the Washington Commanders in league fines throughout the season. Washington racked up a total of $1.49 million in fines. The Steelers were second at $749,747.

Roughly $582,00 of that total was on DK Metcalf’s tab for shoving a fan in Detroit.

Daron Payne recorded the largest individual fine amount at $1.1M. He got ejected for punching Detroit’s Amon-Ra St. Brown in Week 10 and was suspended for the following game.

The website’s data claims NFL teams were fined a combined $8,532,506 across 428 infractions during the 2025-26 season.

Tuesday’s “First Call” discusses the potential of Tyreek Hill joining the Pittsburgh Steelers.
