EXETER TWP, Pa. – Exeter Township Police are working to determine what caused a fatal pedestrian accident at an area shopping center.<\/p>\n
It happened just after 2 p.m. Monday in the lot of the Boscov’s store located in the 4500 block of Perkiomen Avenue.<\/p>\n
Police say two adult women were crossing the parking lot in front of Boscov\u2019s along Perkiomen Avenue when they were struck by a pickup truck turning into the main driving lane.<\/p>\n
Investigators say both pedestrians were injured and transported for medical treatment. One died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash.<\/p>\n
\u201cDuring the course of the investigation, two pedestrians were struck by a pickup truck, and unfortunately, one succumbed to her injuries,\u201d Lt. Sean Fullerton said.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt appears as though the pickup truck was driving through the parking lot and turning onto the main traffic way in front of Boscov\u2019s and struck the two individuals that were crossing the parking lot,\u201d Fullerton said.<\/p>\n
Police said the driver remained at the scene and is cooperating.<\/p>\n
Members of the police department\u2019s Traffic Safety Unit spent hours documenting the crash scene, measuring distances and speaking with witnesses.<\/p>\n
Nationally, parking lots are a frequent site of crashes. The Traffic Safety Foundation reports nearly 1 in 5 vehicle accidents happen in parking lots or garages, where drivers and pedestrians share tight spaces and visibility can be limited. Even at slower speeds, the consequences can be tragic.<\/p>\n

The investigation remains ongoing.<\/p>\n
