A police chase that began in Broome County this morning ended with a person arrested in the area of Scranton, Pennsylvania.<\/p>\n
According to Pennsylvania State Police, around 9:45 a.m., PSP at Gibson were alerted to an active police pursuit that started in New York State. PSP says NY authorities were responding to a reported domestic involving gunfire.<\/p>\n
The male suspect fled in a black Hyundai Santa Fe and failed to stop when police attempted to initiate a traffic stop, continuing into Pennsylvania, where PSP joined the chase, becoming the primary pursing agency.<\/p>\n
During the chase, the driver sped, nearly caused multiple crashes, and did strike a tractor-trailer. Multiple attempts to deploy spike strips were unsuccessful. It wasn’t until the area of mile marker 191 on Interstate 81 in Scranton that a Precision Immobilization Technique was employed, finally bringing the vehicle to a stop.<\/p>\n
The driver was taken into custody without incident and the vehicle was taken to PSP Dunmore barracks for processing. It was discovered that the driver had a prior conviction in New York for Criminal Possession of a Weapon.<\/p>\n
PSP says the investigation is ongoing, a search warrant for the vehicle has been requested and additional charges are pending.
