{"id":116514,"date":"2026-02-17T23:05:09","date_gmt":"2026-02-17T23:05:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/116514\/"},"modified":"2026-02-17T23:05:09","modified_gmt":"2026-02-17T23:05:09","slug":"man-sought-in-binghamton-nabbed-after-pursuit-to-scranton-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/116514\/","title":{"rendered":"Man Sought in Binghamton Nabbed After Pursuit to Scranton"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A suspect in an incident in Binghamton led police on a high-speed pursuit into Pennsylvania.<\/p>\n<p>The chase started on the south side of the city of Binghamton around 9:30 a.m. Tuesday after several shots reportedly were fired.<\/p>\n<p>Police said the suspect sped away in a black 2016 Hyundai Santa Fe after as many as a dozen gunshots were heard.<\/p>\n<p>The pursued vehicle wound up on the Brandywine Highway before heading onto Interstate 81. It reportedly was passing vehicles on the shoulder of the highway as it eluded police.<\/p>\n<p>Law enforcement agencies in Broome County alerted Pennsylvania State Police as the sport utility vehicle continued south into Susquehanna County.<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.2822news.com\/news\/crime-courts\/speed-chase-in-ny-ends-with-arrest-on-i-81-in-scranton\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">WBRE<\/a>, the SUV was traveling at a high rate of speed during the chase &#8220;nearly causing multiple crashes&#8221; before striking a tractor-trailer.<\/p>\n<p>Pennsylvania State Police tried unsuccessfully to use spike strips to stop the pursued vehicle into Lackawanna County.<\/p>\n<p>Troopers used a &#8220;pit maneuver&#8221; to disable the SUV and end the chase. The suspect then was taken into custody.
