PITTSBURGH \u2014 Pittsburgh\u2019s mayor\u2019s office says nearly two dozen properties are set to be demolished over the next several weeks as part of a new demolition blitz.<\/p>\n
For more than a year, 11 Investigates has told you about dangerous homes.<\/p>\n
We first started digging into this a year and a half ago. <\/p>\n
Many are caving in and falling apart, causing dangerous collapses and suspicious fires.<\/p>\n
In December, 11 Investigates sat down with then-mayor-elect Corey O\u2019Connor. He vowed to shake up the city\u2019s demolition program.<\/p>\n
PREVIOUS COVERAGE >>> 11 Investigates Exclusive: Mayor-Elect O\u2019Connor vows to make changes to city\u2019s demolition program<\/a><\/p>\n Now, there\u2019s a sign he\u2019s making good on that promise.<\/p>\n \u201cSo for us, it\u2019s focusing on the ones that are on the top priority list that need to be done and need to be done ASAP, but then after that, it\u2019s putting out a plan where we\u2019re gonna do x amount a year and stick to that plan,\u201d O\u2019Connor said.<\/p>\n On Tuesday, Mayor O\u2019Connor and the Department of Permits, Licenses and Inspections announced a demolition blitz in the Hilltop neighborhoods.<\/p>\n The city said that area has one of the highest concentrations of condemned buildings on the demolition list. <\/p>\n The city kicked off the blitz, tearing down this duplex on Zara Street and a home on Parkwood. <\/p>\n Twenty more, all considered in imminent danger, are next.<\/p>\n They\u2019re in Arlington, Beltzhoover, Knoxville and St. Clair.<\/p>\n 11 Investigates has highlighted blight in two of those neighborhoods.<\/p>\n The mayor said no Pittsburgher should have to live next to a property that been abandoned for years and is falling down.<\/p>\n \u201cI mean, it\u2019s a big issue.
