ALBANY, N.Y. (WNYT) \u2013 Some residents in Bethlehem and Albany said they have gone without mail for days recently.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe used to get mail every day except for on Sundays, obviously, or holidays. And then in the last couple of weeks, we noticed that we weren\u2019t getting mail every day,\u201d said Bethlehem resident Dorianne Blanchard.<\/p>\n
Blanchard said they never know when they are going to receive mail now. <\/p>\n
\u201cSo, Saturday they came and delivered mail. And before that, it was the previous Monday,\u201d said Blanchard. <\/p>\n
Residents told NewsChannel 13 they rely on mail being delivered on time. From receiving medications, checks, and paying bills mail has constantly been late. This has already led to consequences for some. <\/p>\n
Some residents said they have received late fees on their bills because of the mail being late.<\/p>\n
\u201cI got a couple of late fees from a direct mail that when we\u2019ve paid some things, you know, via check,\u201d said Bethlehem resident Karen Carpenter.<\/p>\n
The U.S. Post Office told NewsChannel 13 they will approve overtime, expand delivery times, use additional carriers from nearby offices, and hire more staff to ensure mail is delivered on time. <\/p>\n
\u201cAt times service can occasionally be disrupted due to employee availability for reasons such as illness, personal leave, retirements and more that may impact mail deliveries on some routes,\u201d a spokesperson from USPS said. \u201cWe appreciate our customers\u2019 patience and understanding and want to assure customers that we will continue to adjust routes as needed to ensure service.\u201d<\/p>\n
